Abingdon FPD responds to 33 fires in 2018

Abingdon Fire Protection District responded to 44 calls in 2018 - 34.3 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Abingdon included 33 fires - five structure fires, three vehicle fires and 25 other fires.

In all, the department saw $284,500 in fire loss - or about $8,621 per fire.

The department also received 11 false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death.

The Abingdon Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $317,102 in 2018.
