Carl Sandburg College issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.
South Suburban scored a pair of goals in each half as it defeated the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team 4-1 in Region IV action Wednesday afternoon at Kleine Field.
The Bulldogs (4-2) took a 2-0 lead into halftime behind Alberto Solis’s strike in the 13th minute and Ricardo Avalos’s goal in the 40th minute. The best scoring chance for the Chargers (0-5, 0-3) in the opening half came in the 23rd minute as Mike Pavon (Galveston, Texas/Willis) took a shot from the top of the box that sailed just over the top right corner of the goal.
South Suburban stretched its lead to 3-0 in the 61st minute on a Fernando Montes goal before the Chargers got on the board in the 77th minute.
Standing just inside midfield, Ezechiel Biamungu (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) sent a ball deep into the box, where Pavon outjumped the South Suburban keeper and headed it in despite taking a blow to his left eyebrow that left him with a gash.
Pavon returned to finish the game, but not before Avalos connected for his second goal of the match in the 83rd minute to close the scoring.
Sandburg’s next contest is 1 p.m. Saturday at Kishwaukee.
