City of Monmouth City Council met June 2

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER & PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Rod Davies called the meeting to order in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 100 East Broadway at 6:00 p.m. and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

II. ROLL CALL

City Clerk Melissa Teel called the roll and those answering Present were: Aldermen Roger Teel, Juan Pinedo, John VanVleet, and Jim Conard Absent: Aldermen Brad Bone, Kevin Ferry, and Brian Daw. Also Present: Mayor Rod Davies, City Clerk Melissa Teel, City Attorney Marcum Spears, City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher, Communications Director Ken Helms, MFD Chief Casey Rexroat, MPD Chief Joe Switzer, Public Works Director Brayden Bledsoe and Building and Zoning Director Joe Clark

City Clerk Melissa Teel stated that there were not enough in attendance for a present quorum. Mayor Davies states that we will not be able to approve the minutes of the last meeting but that we would go forward with the promotion, appointment and proclamation and asks if anyone would like to address council.

III. PRESENTATIONS

A. Tom Best gave a short presentation on this year’s cemetery walk featuring the South side of the Cemetery as they did the North side last year. Mayor Davies stated that we did have him on the agenda for his approval but since they are unable to vote on anything, he would need to come to the next meeting before they could take any action on it.

B. Fire Chief Rexroat presents Dan Chard and requests he be sworn in as Captain. City Clerk Melissa Teel swore in Dan Chard as Captain of the Monmouth Fire Department.

C. Police Chief Switzer states that he would like to appoint Lieutenant Bratcher to the position of Deputy Chief. He has been with the department 27 years 5 months and some days and is second in command. City Clerk Melissa Teel swore in Lieutenant Bratcher as Deputy Chief.

D. Mayor Davies presented a proclamation to Susan Twomey declaring the month of June as LGBTQ+ pride month.

IV. ADJOURNMENT

Mayor Davies then announced that is all the business that can be conducted this evening and that we will reconvene at the next regular scheduled meeting at 6:09 p.m.
