FOIA Request to Knox County IL Elections Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Galesburg Reporter have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request is for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
We have asked for specific details about each candidate including their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. We also requested contact information for each candidate, such as their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is crucial for us at Galesburg Reporter as it allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver.
