A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Knox County Clerk's office on January 14, 2025, by the Galesburg Reporter. The media organization sought details about the candidates running for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections.
The Galesburg Reporter specifically requested a list of candidates with their respective filled dates and the offices they are vying for. This request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and preferably in an electronic format.
As a news organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Galesburg Reporter believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we also expressed our belief in being eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional during this request.
