FOIA Request to Monmouth City Council Regarding Council Members' Details on October 15, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Galesburg Reporter have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, to the Monmouth City Council.
The request seeks information about the current council members in an electronic format. Specifically, we have asked for the names and titles of all council members, along with the year they were appointed, their term length (whether it's two or four years), and when their term expires.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
