City of Galesburg Landmark Commission met July 16

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Suzanne Klohn, Mark Martin, Bob Miener, Deb Sugai, Greta Woolsey, 5.

MEMBERS ABSENT: None.

OTHERS PRESENT: Lucas Brooks, Associate Planner, and Steve Gugliotta, AICP.

Staff declared a quorum was present.

Approve Minutes of April 2, 2024.

Member Woolsey made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Member Klohn.

Minutes were approved by voice vote.

Discuss Citizen Comment

None.

LC-24-0701 Consider Local Landmark nomination – 2231 Windish Drive

The applicant, Randy Davis of Community Temple Church of God in Christ, was present.

Chairperson Miener asked if the application included both the chapel and the connected building. The applicant confirmed that both were included. Member Klohn noted that the structure was well-maintained. Ther applicant mentioned future planned improvements, including window restoration and bathroom renovation to become ADA-compliant.

Member Klohn moved to recommend the Local Landmark nomination to the City Council, seconded by Member Woolsey.

Motion was approved by voice vote, with no nays or abstentions.

LC-24-0702 Consider Certificate of Appropriateness – 774 N Broad Street

The applicant, Joshua Webber, was present.

The applicant corrected the original application to say that the proposed fence would be aluminum that is meant to look like iron. Member Martin asked if the product was similar to others that had been before the Commission, such as the fence for Hope Cemetery.

Chairperson Miener shared concerns that the proposed product did not look authentic to the architecture of the structure. Member Martin stated that starting the fence at the front face of the structure and adding landscaping could make the

Commission more amenable to approval.

The applicant proposed tabling this application to allow him to bring in a sample of the product and modify the proposed layout of the fence.

Member Klohn moved to table the Certificate of Appropriateness, seconded by

Member Woolsey.

Motion was approved by voice vote, with no nays or abstentions.

There being no further business, Member Sugai made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Member

Woolsey, approved by voice vote the meeting adjourned at 6:23 P.M.
