McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met March 4

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Eric Blakeley, Eric Chapman, Letha Clark, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Stephanie Hilton, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve February 5, 2024 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Blakeley to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Report received and filed.

Tri-County Recycling

No report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Nine Veterans were given assistance in February. Total assistance amounted to $2,793.00.

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Nick Petitgout gave the report. The County is getting a canine dog, and will be purchasing a canine car from the City of Macomb.

Assessor’s Office Update

Assessor Deborah Cousins gave the report. Cousins informed the Committee that she has a vacancy in her office, she would like to split the salary from that position and give it to the other two employees and not fill the vacancy. She would like $10,000.00 to split. The Board will discuss this and get back to her next month.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Stephanie Hilton – Public Defender

A discussion was held regarding the use of grant money, it has to be spent by June 30, 2024. Hilton would like to give a supplemental pay to the Public Defender Office Manager.

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Litchfield not to approve the claim for Supplemental Pay for the Public Defender Office Manager. Motion carried with a roll call vote of 7 yays, 1 nay, 0 pass, and 0 absent.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that there will be a bid meeting for Courthouse restoration held on March 8th at 11:00 in Courtroom 202.

Adjourn

Member Clark moved with a second by Member Blakeley to adjourn the meeting at 7:42 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
