Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education met Jan. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Call to Order/Roll Call

The Community Unit School District #205 Board of Education met in closed session prior to the regular meeting on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 6:30 PM at 940 W. Fremont St., Galesburg, IL.

The roll was read and the following Members responded: Bess-Tabb, Boettcher, Rodriguez, Scherpe, Taylor (5) Absent: Lyon, Phelps (2) Roll Call #1

Closed Session

It was moved by Member Taylor and seconded by Member Boettcher to move to closed session for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of an employee(s), negotiations, and pending litigation. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Bess-Tabb, Boettcher, Rodriguez, Taylor, Scherpe (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #2

Following closed session, it was moved by Member Taylor and seconded by Member Boettcher to move to open session. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Boettcher, Rodriguez, Taylor, Scherpe, Bess-Tabb (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #3

Roll Call

President Rodriguez called the regular meeting to order. On roll call the following Members responded: Bess-Tabb, Boettcher, Rodriguez, Scherpe, Taylor (5) Absent: Lyon, Phelps (2)

Recognition of Public Comments—None

Presentations to the Board

A. Shine In 205

The Shine In 205 winners for the month of January were Julia Bernardi, Outreach Worker at Silas Willard Elementary School and Tyler DeMaree, Teacher at Galesburg Senior High School.

B. Student Council Report (GHS)

Student Council representative, Olivia Own updated the Board on events taking place at Galesburg Junior Senior High School, including the upcoming Swirl events, blood drive and Special Olympics Basketball Tournament all taking place in February.

It was moved by Member Taylor and seconded by Member Boettcher to approve the consent agenda as presented. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Rodriguez, Scherpe, Taylor, Bess-Tabb, Boettcher (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #5

FOCUS AREA #1: Relevant Skills that Lead to Employability

A. Special Education Report

Mrs. Statham stated she had nothing to add to her report.

B. Student and Staff Supports Report

Mrs. Ritchie stated she has nothing to add to her report.

C. Curriculum Report

Mrs. Bredemeier had nothing to add.

D. Building Reports

Member Bess-Tabb requested tardy information for the Junior Senior High School to disseminate for the behavior intervention committee.

FOCUS AREA #2: Facilities that Assist in Skill Acquisition

A. Building and Grounds Committee Report

President Rodriguez stated that both committee members were absent so there would be no report this month.

B. Consider Approval of Summer 2024 Maintenance Work Bid

It was moved by Member Taylor and seconded by Member Boettcher to approve as presented.

On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Rodriguez, Scherpe, Taylor, Bess-Tabb, Boettcher (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #6

FOCUS AREA #3: Responding to the Changing Needs of our Community

A. Consider Approval of Board Policies: Section 5 (Second Reading)

It was moved by Member Taylor and seconded by Member Boettcher to approve as presented.

On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Rodriguez, Scherpe, Taylor, Bess-Tabb, Boettcher (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #7

B. Consider Approval of Dot Com Therapy Contract for Remainder of 2024 School Year

It was moved by Member Boettcher and seconded by Member Taylor to approve as presented.

As discussed in January and December this is for approval as a pilot for the remainder of the school year. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Taylor, Bess-Tabb, Boettcher, Rodriguez, Scherpe (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #8

PERSONNEL

A. Consider Approval of Personnel Report

It was moved by Member Taylor and seconded by Member Bess-Tabb to approve as presented.

On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Bess-Tabb, Boettcher, Rodriguez, Scherpe, Taylor (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #9

B. Grievance Update

Dr. Asplund stated that there are three outstanding grievances.

C. Report on FOIA Requests—None
