City of Knoxville City Council met Jan. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: Mayor Myers called the Regular Council Meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

All rose to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Present: Aldermen Eiker, Gruner, Hillier, Hope, Moore, Rainey, and Taylor; Mayor Myers, Treasurer Barnum, Chief Poyner, and City Clerk Wilt. Absent: Alderman Reed,

Attorney McCoy. Also present: Mrs. Jill Davis, Ms. Penny Flesner.

Public Comments: None.

Approval of Minutes: Alderman Gruner moved to approve the Minutes of the December 18, 2023

City Council Meeting. Alderman Hillier seconded the motion which passed by voice vote with no dissent.

GENERAL REPORTS

Attorney Report: No report.

Engineer Report: No report.

Treasurer’s Report: No report.

City Clerk’s Report: No report.

INFORMATION ITEMS

None.

OLD BUSINESS

1. Demolition of 209 N Hebard St: Since the residence tested positive for asbestos, the demolished house cannot be taken to the landfill without professional asbestos removal.

The asbestos inspector will be contacted for advice.

NEW BUSINESS

None.

Mayor’s Report:

• The following projects are pending for the first quarter of 2024:

o Department heads compile 5-year plans

o Review water and sewer rates annually

o Consider upgrading to automated garbage collection with anticipated 2025 truck purchase

o Review storage rental rates

o Purchase screen for Council Chambers for use at meetings

o Paint pickleball court lines at James Knox Park as soon as possible in the spring

o Hold ribbon cutting ceremony for new playground equipment at James Knox Park

o Formulate sidewalk replacement plan

• The equipment from the former skateboard park at James Knox Park has been scrapped.

• The paperwork for sewer lining is progressing.

• The next regularly scheduled Council Meeting will be on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 7:00 pm.

Alderman Hope left the meeting at 7:22 PM.

Committee Reports:

• Administration: Clerk Wilt suggested holding a special Council meeting on April 29, 2024, to tour City facilities.

• Cemetery: No report.

• Economic Development: No report.

• Parks: No report.

• Police: No report.

• Sanitation: No report.

• Streets: No report.

• Water/Sewer: No report.

Adjourn: At 7:24 PM, Alderman Gruner moved to Adjourn the Meeting; Alderman Hillier seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote with no dissent. The meeting was adjourned.
