Village of Altona Village Board met Oct. 5

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

  • The board meeting was called to order on Thursday, October 5th, by President Derrick Appell.  Board members present:  President: Derrick Appell.  Treasurer: Mark Compton.  Clerk: Kelly Scott.  Trustees: Dale Grawe, Jeremy Williams, Keith Holland, Nick Morris, Brian DeVito and Ryan West.   Present:  Chad Long – Village Attorney and 3 guests.
  • Minutes from September 7th, 2023 meeting, was motioned to approve by Keith and 2nd by Dale.  All Ayes.
  • Payment of bills for October was motioned to approve by Keith, and 2nd by Nick.  Ayes: Dale, Jeremy, Keith, Nick, Brian and Ryan.  Passes: 6-0
  • Financial report was reviewed by Mark.  No Interfund Transfers.
  • Public Comment: Lt. Rickard stated his retirement date is October 20th 2023 and introduced Sgt. Carl Kramer who will be taking his place as Lieutenant.
Old Business

  • Code Book Revisions & Passage of Any and All Ordinances:
  • Any Property Sales or Purchasing Updates or Actions & Possible Closed Sessions: The lien on Georgia Shores property has been updated.
  • Solar Update: None at this time.
  • Distressed Properties:  Mark Johnston was present to answer questions about his property at 206 E Main.  Mark stated things that he has done to improve his property.  He has cut all the trees along the foundation and he has been working on the fence on the sides and back of house.  Derrick advised that the fence in the front needs addressed soon.  Mark mentioned he needs a new roof; he has started working on the roof.  He was asked of a time line when that would be completed and he said hopefully in a year. Derrick mentioned a year wasn’t acceptable, but as long as there is progress, we will work with him.  Mark also stated that 206 E. Main St. is his residence and he is living there.
New Business:

  • Announcements were read by Derrick:
  • Service Agreement for Lift Station Generator: Need some questions answered before signing.  Tabled until next meeting.
  • Tax Levy: Truth & Taxation Hearing will be at held at December Meeting.
  • Computer for Jason:

• Water/Sewer: 

• Streets/Garbage:

  • Various Street Work Projects & Improvement Plan Updates &/or Action: 
  • Asphalt 100 Block Park Street & South Side 100 E Main St:  Superior Asphalt is going to try to get this done the beginning of November.
• Parks/Sidewalks:

  • Various Park projects updates &/or Purchasing of Equipment: Moved some mulch for the new playground. Going to look for a contractor to install the playground equipment.
  • Pavilion: The Lions Club would like to Build a pavilion at the park and was asking if the Village would pay for the concrete. 
• Employee Report:

• Adjournment:  Keith motioned to adjourn at 8:05 p.m. and Dale 2nd the motion. All Ayes.  The next scheduled meeting will be Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.
