City of Galesburg Airport Advisory Commission met Sept. 21.

Minutes Approval: Minutes of the 8/17/2023 meeting were reviewed and motioned to approve by (Springer/Wolford). Motion approved by unanimous consent.

Updates and Reports:

• FBO Update (Phillip Wolford)

o Phillip Wolford provided information on the upcoming Open House for Harrel Timmons to be held on September 23rd from 12:30 p.m to 5:30 p.m. Harrel invited everyone to attend.

o Phillip discussed an idea to have a mural painted on the hangars that are scheduled to be painted in the future. Iowa City Municipal Airport recently received grant funding and completed a mural project on one of their hangars.

• Airport Manager Update

o Introduction of Michael Doi (Director of Public Works) made to group.

o Michael Doi provided an overview of the recent IDOT Aeronautics airport inspection that he attended.

o Aaron Gavin stated that the City Council tour was held on September 1st and went very well.

General Discussion of other Airport Related Topics:

The Commission had discussions on various outstanding projects and maintenance issues. The airport layout plan was discussed. Aaron Gavin stated that the kick-off meeting with IDOT had been requested by Jeff Olson, and that he would check on the status. Don Miles provided an update on the electronic gate near the hangars, stating that Howe Overhead Doors was in the process of performing their work to get the gate operational. Phillip Wolford requested that the grass runway be rolled in the Spring to smooth it out. Ken Springer inquired about the status of the private hangar lease with Dean Maupin. Aaron Gavin stated that he had not had a chance to answer Dean’s questions, and that he would brief Michael Doi on them and begin working on answers. Phillip Wolford discussed the outstanding issue with the property taxes on the rented hangars. Aaron Repp inquired about whether the new City ordinance regarding virtual meetings was applicable to Commissions as well. Aaron Gavin stated that he would look into whether Commissions were included, and the members would be briefed at the next meeting.

The Commission discussed holding next month’s meeting in the Stearman building and it was agreed to hold the meeting there.

Adjournment:

The meeting adjourned at 3:56 p.m. on a motion by Springer/Repp that passed unanimously.
