Knoxville Community Unit School District #202 Board of Education met June 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Community Unit School District #202, Knox County, met in a regular meeting duly called and held June 26, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at 809 East Main Street, Knoxville, Illinois, which is within the boundaries of said District. The President called the meeting to order and directed that the roll be called. Upon roll being called, the following members were found to be present:

Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

And the following absent: Mrs. Rose, Mr. Stearns

Recognition of Visitors: Jolene Eiker, Sarah Tessier, Renee Powell, Megan Schaefer, Jodi Keever, Michelle McClay, Terrah Myers, Stacey Farrell

Also present were: Ralph Grimm

Public Comments - Jolene Eiker spoke to the board regarding Dual Enrollment credits. She also asked if activity accounts are audited.

Public Hearing for Amended FY 23 District Budget

Upon roll being called, the following members were found to be present:

Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

And the following absent: Mrs. Rose, Mr. Stearns

Public Comments for Amended Budget - None

There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Scalf that the Public Hearing be adjourned. The President put the question to the Board and the motion unanimously carried and the Public Hearing so adjourned at 6:07 p.m.

It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Harshbarger to go into Closed Session at 6:08 p.m. to discuss:

The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1).

It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Scalf to go back into Open Session at 7:02 p.m.

It was moved by Member Scalf and seconded by Member Harshbarger for Approval of the Consent Agenda (Resignations and Transfers). Employment will be voted on individually. KHS Assistant Volleyball Coach position was tabled.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Scalf for Approval of the Employment of Alyssa Hart as KHS Assistant Principal.

AYE: Mr. Ratermann

NAY: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

Whereupon the President declared the motion failed.

It was moved by Member Harshbarger and seconded by Member Ratermann for Approval of the Employment of Michelle McClay as KJHS Assistant Principal.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Harshbarger and seconded by Member Ratermann for Approval of the Employment of Margaret Rouse as KJHS Ag / Industrial Arts teacher.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Scalf and seconded by Member Harshbarger for Approval of the Employment of Brandy Nolan as KHS Guidance Counselor.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf

NAY: Mrs. Young

ABSTAIN: Mrs. McCracken

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Scalf for Approval of the Employment of Kris Stearns as KHS Assistant Football Coach.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: Mrs. McCracken

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

New Business

It was moved by Member Scalf and seconded by Member Ratermann for the Approval of the Amended FY23 District Budget.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Harshbarger and seconded by Member Scalf for Approval of Bids for KHS Ag Shop Ventilation project.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Harshbarger for Approval of the Math Pilot Project Curriculum Material.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

It was moved by Member Scalf and seconded by Member Ratermann for Approval of Administrator Contracts.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

8.2 Thank you to Mr. Grimm as Interim Superintendent

There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Harshbarger that the meeting be adjourned. The President put the question to the Board and the motion unanimously carried and the meeting so adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
