State Rep. Travis Weaver (R-Pekin) thanked his constituents for participating in a recent public event in a Facebook post published on Thursday.
"A huge thank you to all who joined Senator Neil Anderson (R-Aledo) and me at our first Lemonade & Legislation at the Kewanee Public Library last night!" Weaver wrote. "It was great to meet everyone, answer questions, and have meaningful conversations about how we can improve our communities and our state. Our next Lemonade & Legislation will be next Thursday, June 15th, at Sunset Hills Golf Course & Eatery in Pekin! The event starts at 6 pm, and refreshments will be served. Looking forward to seeing you there!"
The second Lemonade & Legislation event was initially scheduled for May 25 before being postponed and rescheduled.
The Sunset Hills Golf Course and Eatery is located at 1620 Summit Drive. Formerly known as Mashie's Pub, it serves a variety of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, soups, salads, and appetizers.
On May 27, Weaver published a statement on his official website regarding the advancement of the 2023-24 fiscal year budget, which saw no Republican support.
“Finally, after four months of being in session, well-past their own self-imposed deadline, we finally received the budget from the Governor and the majority party," Weaver said. "Republicans were left-out of budget talks, and taxpayers are completely left in the dark on how their money is being spent. They deserve better than what they received during this budget process.”
Weaver also mourned the unexpected death of a Pekin police officer in a Facebook post published on May 19.
"An unspeakable tragedy," he wrote. "I'm heartbroken to learn of this brave officer’s passing, and we thank him for his incredible service to Pekin and the community. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as we all try to process this devastating loss."
It was later released the name of the officer was Daniel Graber.
Weaver is a lifelong Peoria County resident who currently represents Illinois' 93rd District in the State House of Representatives. He received a BA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Alabama and received his MBA from Northwestern University, He has also worked in Finance and Strategy roles at Caterpillar while simultaneously investing in and playing an executive role in multiple local startup businesses.
