In a June 1 Facebook post, Rep. Travis Weaver (R-Pekin) announced a Lemonade and Legislation event.
“YOU’RE INVITED! Join me and Senator Neil Anderson at Kewanee Public Library on June 7th at 6pm for our first Lemonade and Legislation,” he wrote on Facebook. “Ask questions, meet your elected officials, and learn about our legislative agendas, all while enjoying lemonade.”
The event announced on June 1 is set for June 7 at the Kewanee Public Library, 102 S. Tremont St., in Kewanee. It is the first Lemonade and Legislation event, due to a previous postponement. The event starts at 6 p.m. Snacks and drinks, including lemonade and iced tea, will be served.
A postponed Lemonade and Legislation event from May 25 is now scheduled for June 15, at Sunset Golf Course and Eatery, located at 1620 Summit Drive, in Pekin. The event starts at 6 p.m., like the June 7 event.
In other business, Weaver recently made a statement on the recently passed budget. In a news release on his website, Weaver said: “Finally, after four months of being in session, well-past their own self-imposed deadline, we finally received the budget from the Governor and the majority party. Republicans were left out of budget talks, and taxpayers are completely left in the dark on how their money is being spent. They deserve better than what they received during this budget process.”
The Illinois Senate passed the budget late Thursday, May 25. The House passed it early Saturday morning May 27. The bill awaits Gov. Pritzker's signature.
Weaver represents the 93rd House District. He was elected in 2022. According to his House biography, Weaver grew up in Pekin, and now lives in Edwards. He has a Bachelor of Art in Finance and Marketing from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University. He has worked in startup businesses and in Finance and Strategy at Caterpillar. In his spare time, Weaver tutors GED students, chairs the Education committee of the Wildlife Prairie Park and runs marathons.
