In a March 3 Facebook post, Sen. Neil Anderson (R-Aledo) discussed a new bill to reduce taxes for those who work overtime.
“People in Illinois are already taxed enough, and we should not punish them for working extra by taking even more of their hard-earned money,” he wrote.
In his Facebook post, Anderson shared a link to an expanded statement about how he wants to help Illinois residents. “This is the least we can do for people struggling to make ends meet and who are putting in extra hours just to be able to feed their families and pay their bills,” said Anderson.
Senate Bill 51 would allow taxpayers to deduct a portion of their state taxes, equal to overtime wages earned in the tax year. The bill would go into effect immediately upon signing. As of Jan. 20, it was referred to the Assignments Committee.
Anderson has served the 47th District since 2015. The district now includes portions and/or all of Adams, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Menard, Mercer, Peoria, Rock Island, Schuyler, Stark, Tazwell, and Warren counties. When he's not representing the 47th District in Springfield, Anderson is a firefighter/paramedic in Moline.
Anderson ran uncontested in the Nov. 8 general election.
