Rep. Travis Weaver (R-Pekin) recently took to social media to congratulate The Future Farmers of America.
“Happy #NationalFFAWeek to all Illinois and nationwide FFA students and chapters!” Weaver wrote in a Feb. 21 Facebook post. “Your dedication to agriculture and leadership is admirable, and ensures all of us can rely on healthy and nutritious food to be on our tables every single day.”
FFA is a youth organization formed in 1928 and is set up in local chapters, state associations and the national organization.
The Illinois Future Farmers of America dates back to 1928, when State Supervisor of Agriculture Education J.E. Hill introduced the program to teachers at a state teachers' convention. In June of 1929, nearly 1,500 students and advisors met at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to create the Illinois Future Farmers of America.
“Happy FFA Week Illinois FFA!” the Illinois FFA wrote in a Feb. 19 Facebook post. “The Major State Officer Team is kicking the week off with SAE Sunday. We have all shared a glimpse of what our Supervised Agriculture Experiences are like, and we encourage you to do the same! Keep a lookout for an SAE article to see all of the opportunites that come with a record book! #FFAWeek2023 #NationalFFAWeek #electrifyilffa”
Weaver joined the Illinois House of Representatives in January, representing the 93rd District. The freshman representative has been assigned to a variety of committees, including Appropriations-Public Safety; Energy & Environment; Housing; Immigration & Human Rights; Personnel & Pensions; Revenue & Finance; Insurance committees and the Tax Credit and Incentives Subcommittee, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
