United Community Unit School District 304 Board of Education met Dec. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CLOSED SESSION Closed session for the United CUSD Board of Education was called to order at 5:30 p.m. to discuss personnel.

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. December 8, 2022. Roll was called and answered by: Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance were: Maggie Wallace, Chad Robertson, Chris Schwarz, Pat Coate, Kris Repp and several community members.

AGENDA Joel Johnson made a motion to approve the amended agenda with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call : Aye - Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin. Nay - none.

SHOWCASING Nicole Cole, Vanessa Witherell, Mr. Coate and Mrs. Wallace presented their new reading/literacy series adoption and implementations.

LEVY A resolution to approve the final tax levy was made by Amelia Tierney with a second by Joel Johnson. Aye - Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin. Nay - none.

ABATEMENT Jill Jenks made a motion to approve a resolution transferring lawfully available funds to the bond and interest fund of the District and abating  portion of the taxes heretofore levied to pay debt service on the General Obligation School Bonds Series 2019 of the District in the amount of $300,000. Hank Shimmin seconded the motion. Aye - Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin.

Nay - none.

AUDIT Joel Johnson made a motion to accept the financial audit as presented. Jill Jenks seconded the motion. Aye - Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin. Nay - none.

UJH /SOFTBALL Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve the addition of softball to UJH activities. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Aye - Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin. Nay - none.

UJH FOOTBALL The board discussed the possible addition of UJH football. Tabled.

SUPT. REPORT The new housing complex was discussed. Petitions for school board are to be filed the week of December 12-19. Updates on the new well were given. Illness numbers were discussed. Asbestos will be taken out of the old locker room at the high school over break. The ROE will provide new and current board member training next summer. Building projects were discussed.

CLOSED SESSION At 7:52 p.m., Joel Johnson made a motion to return to closed session with intent to return to open. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Aye - Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole, Craig Allaman and Hank Shimmin. Nay - none.

Return to open at 8:30 p.m.

CONSENT AGENDA A motion was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Amelia Tierney to approve the consent agenda which included: Approval of the November 10, 2022 minutes; December bills as presented; activity funds reports; treasurer’s report, regretfully accepted the retirement of Jori Piersee, Head HS Cook, as of March 21, 2023. Employment of Darrin Ross HS English, Freda McKee west paraprofessional, and fall 2023 coaching as per listing. Roll Call: Aye: Craig Allaman, Jill Jenks, Hank Shimmin, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

Adjourn Craig Allaman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m. Jill Jenks seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Hank Shimmin, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
