City of Galesburg Board of Fire & Police Commission met Nov. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Special meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order by Chairman Robert Fulton on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Present in person: Chairman Robert Fulton, Commissioner Thomas Peters, Police Chief Russell Idle, and Amanda Jennings, Secretary.

Present by phone: Commissioner Diane VanHootegem (due to illness)

Public Citizen Comment

None

Chairman Fulton approached the Board with consideration for temporarily waiving the college requirement for entry level police candidates. Chairman Fulton advised this was suggested at the Fall Illinois Fire and Police Commission Association Seminar. Commissioner Peters motioned to approve temporarily waiving the college education requirement. Commissioner VanHootegem gave a second motion. All were in favor.

New Business

Chief Idle advised another local department reached out to one of our candidates and offered him a job today and they will waive the polygraph and psychological exams. Chief has spoke with the candidate and suggests moving the hire date and have the swear-in ceremony on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 9 a.m. He also mentioned the new proposed POWER test requirements but is not sure that it has been voted on.

Adjournment

There being no further business, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Peters and seconded by Commissioner VanHootegem. Meeting adjourned at 9:38 a.m.
