Acerra for City Council has issued the following press release:

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS - - -  Heather Acerra of Galesburg, Illinois announced her intentions to seek election to the position of Alderperson in Ward 5 in the 2023 April elections.

On Wednesday Acerra, talking about the announcement stated, “I felt it was my duty to put my hat in the ring”. In addition to raising her own family in Galesburg, Acerra’s family has lived in Galesburg since the late 1800s and has deep ties to the community’s manufacturing, healthcare, and law enforcement history.

Acerra is a graduate of both Galesburg High School and Knox College. Seeking to reinvest in Galesburg, Acerra and her husband founded LuxBlox in 2015. Over the past seven years Acerra has hired dozens of area residents including GHS, Carl Sandburg, and Knox students, as well as people with disabilities. Seeking to put “Galesburg Made” back on the worldstage, Acerra has sold LuxBlox in the US, Europe, and Japan.

Acerra, in dedicating her campaign to be an active voice for the taxpayer stated, “Before obligating our citizens to generations of debt and higher taxes to pay for something like a new community center, we should first connect with and hear from those individuals already working in the areas such a community center would serve.  We need to be thoughtful, deliberate, and considerate when making such big decisions with our taxpayers’ money.”

Acerra wants Galesburg to focus on maintaining and growing its tax base with jobs, as well as help new companies make Galesburg their home. Galesburg has benefited from established companies growing over the past few years and Acerra seeks to retain these businesses by asking “what can we do to continue this trend?”

Acerra seeks to make growth and stability her mission. As the daughter of a police officer, Acerra knows that public safety and ordinance enforcement is essential for a community to thrive. Acerra also plans to address the many abandoned buildings currently being occupied by squatters which create unsafe situations for the occupants and the homeowners located around such properties.
