Knoxville Community Unit School District #202 Board of Education met Sept. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Community Unit School District #202, Knox County, met in a regular meeting duly called and held at 6:24 p.m. at 809 East Main Street, Knoxville, Illinois, which is within the boundaries of said District. The President called the meeting to order and directed that the roll be called. Upon roll being called, the following members were found to be present:

Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young and Mr. Stearns

And the following absent:

Recognition of Visitors: Toby Myers

Also present were: Marty Payne, Ralph Grimm, Jenn Walter, Matt Maaske, Myles Stambaugh, Brad Jacobson, John Neubaum, Jodi Keever

3. It was moved by Member Scalf and seconded by Member McCracken to approve the consent agenda as presented, with a correction to the August 22, 2022 regular board meeting minutes.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

4. Public Forum

4.1 Public Comments - Toby Myers addressed the board regarding a donation the City of Knoxville had received to plant trees. The city had received a donation of $75,000 to be used to plant trees around the community; they would like to purchase trees for the district to be planted around the schools. There are specific trees the money can be spent on and it will eventually be open to citizens.

4.2 Good Things Happening for Kids - The administrators presented a slideshow, showcasing events and activities going on in the district. Mrs. Keever discussed the Mable Way tickets, Character Strong theme for the month, student council elections, Mini Blitz, Glow Run and Character Awards. Mr. Maaske discussed the Character Ed / Leadership class, STEM class, the band doing a great job and numerous extracurricular activities. Mr. Neubaum discussed FFA winning the Forestry sectional, Industrial Tech attending a conference in Chicago, praised teachers for the classes doing so well, students are engaged in learning. Mr. Jacobson discussed various extracurricular activities, Athlete of the Week and the Lincoln Trail conference.

4.3 Superintendent’s Report - Mr. Payne stated he did not have much of a report, but wanted to tell the board there are so many positives in Knoxville. As he is in the schools, he is noticing ALL students are engaged in learning, teachers are enjoying their students, the students are well taken care of.

5. New Business

5.1 It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Rose for Approval of Second Reading of PRESS policy updates 2:230; 3:70; 4:70; 5:70; 5:80; 5:110; 5:240; 6:70; 6:80; 6:140; 6:290; 6:330; 7:285; 7:15; 7:270.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, and Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

5.2 It was moved by Member Harshbarger and seconded by Member Scalf for Approval of the FY 2023 Budget.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, and Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

5.3 It was moved by Member McCracken and seconded by Member Rose for Approval of the Delabar CTE Intergovernmental Agreement.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, and Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

5.4 It was moved by Member Young and seconded by Member Ratermann for Approval of the Consolidated District Plan.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, and Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

5.5 It was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Young for Approval of Additional Contractual Services with IASB. IASB will run the open forums / focus groups for the Superintendent Search for $1500 a day.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, and Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

5.6 It was moved by Member McCracken and seconded by Member Scalf for Approval of FFA trips.

AYE: Dr. Harshbarger, Mrs. McCracken, Mr. Ratermann, Mrs. Rose, Mr. Scalf, Mrs. Young, and Mr. Stearns

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

6. Correspondence / Other Business - Mr. Stearns passed around a Thank You card from Ralph Grimm. Dr. Harshbarger asked about “furries” at the high school. Mr. Neubaum assured her, he would never ask for a litter box to be placed at the high school.

There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Member Ratermann and seconded by Member Young that the meeting be adjourned. The President put the question to the Board and the motion unanimously carried and the meeting so adjourned at 7:19 p.m.
