Freshmen Nate Hill and Idius Robertson each came up with strong performances off the bench as the Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team split a pair of contests at the Lake County Classic over the weekend.
FRIDAY
Sandburg68, Oakton 63
Hill put up a team-leading 20 points while going 8 of 10 from the field as the Chargers earned their first victory of the season. After the Owls tied the game at 60, Hill delivered the go-ahead bucket as Sandburg pulled away for the win.
The first-year guard played 25 minutes, went 2 of 4 from 3-point range, knocked down both of his free throws and led the Chargers with four assists in the victory.
Sophomore Connor Barnett had 11 points for the Chargers, who led 27-21 at halftime and shot 49 percent for the game.
SATURDAY
Lake County 69, Sandburg 65
The Chargers led the host Lancers 63-62 before Lake County's Terryon Brumby was fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all three free throws to go ahead for good with 1:19 to go.
Robertson finished with team highs of 15 points and seven boards for the Chargers in only 17 minutes. He hit 6 of 8 from the field and went 3 for 4 from the line.
Griffin Ronnebeck added 13 points off the bench for Sandburg, including a 4-of-8 showing from 3-point range.
