Democrats won the 2022 governor race in Galesburg, according to official results.

J.B. Pritzker won in the city with 52 percent of the vote, receiving 4,619 out of 8,787 votes. Pritzker was the incumbent and won the Illinois governor’s race to start his second term. Much of his messaging was along party lines, campaigning about reproductive rights and a person’s right to choose. He secured roughly 54 percent of the vote across Illinois.

The runner up, Bailey, received 44 percent of the Galesburg votes.

Across Galesburg, 52 percent of registered voters cast their ballot in the governor’s race during the 2022 midterms.

Pritzker’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and a resulting increase in crime was constantly under the microscope during the campaign. Bailey argued Pritzker was a “thief” who’d cost children precious memories by implementing a stay-at-home order, while Pritzker claimed Illinois had survived COVID-19 better than other states.

Some precincts had not fully reported the results by the time of publication.
