The Monmouth College football team’s 21st conference title earned the program a bid to Saturday’s inaugural Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl. The Fighting Scots will play Concordia University-Wisconsin in the bowl, which will kick off at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
After winning the 133rd Turkey Bowl on Saturday with a 56-0 romp over Knox College(opens in a new tab), Monmouth finished the season with an 8-1 conference record, which placed them in a three-way tie for the Midwest Conference with Lake Forest College and Ripon College. Lake Forest College won the three-way tiebreaker, earning the Midwest Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Football Championship. Monmouth then received the bid to the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl, which will be played on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran College.
The Falcons earned the bowl invitation by finishing runner-up in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, which was won by Aurora University. Both Monmouth and Concordia University-Wisconsin enter Saturday’s bowl game with an 8-2 overall record.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to play another week and give our guys an opportunity to win a ninth game this season,” said Monmouth coach Chad Braun, who has won four Midwest Conference titles.
Overall, 16 of Monmouth’s 21 football conference titles have come in the Midwest Conference.
Braun said his Scots will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. The Falcons’ high-powered offense averages more than 28 points a game this season, and Concordia University-Wisconsin has scored at least 30 points in five games.
“Concordia University-Wisconsin is a very good team,” said Braun. “They’re very well-coached, athletic and have good schemes. Saturday is going to have a playoff atmosphere because we are facing an excellent team.”
