Sandburg Board of Trustees Holds September Meeting

The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting for September on Thursday evening on the Main Campus in Galesburg.

Trustees approved the electronic recycling of 65 iPads that were deemed outdated and no longer viable for classroom instruction. The iPads will be recycled by Diamond Assets, with reimbursement to the College of up to $100 per iPad.

Lara Roemer, associate dean of social and business sciences, presented to the Board on her six-week trip to Ghana and Togo this summer as part of a Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad grant. Roemer joined 14 community college and high school instructors from the Chicagoland area on the trip to explore the legacy of colonialism in the African nations and the connection of the transatlantic slave trade in their history to American history. 

Trustees passed a resolution designating Board recording secretary Lindsey Huber to receive nominating petitions for candidates for the April 4 consolidated election. Nominating petitions may be filed from Dec. 12-19.

In other business, the Board approved the following:

• Reimbursement of $155.63 to trustee Lee Johnson for travel to the Illinois Community College Trustees Association meeting Sept. 9-10 in Springfield.

• Employment of Abby Frye as coordinator of library services, effective Oct. 1.

• Resignation of Greg Jones as infrastructure services specialist, effective Aug. 31.

• Resignation of Zoe Kudla-Polay as director of recruitment, effective Sept. 16.

• Resignation of Derek Schreiner as dean of health professions, effective Sept. 2.

• Position elimination of Nicole Gengenbach as administrative assistant for TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science, effective 31.

The Board’s next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. Oct. 20 on the Main Campus in Galesburg.
