Mercer County School District Board of Education met July 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Mercer County School District #404, Mercer, Henderson, & Rock Island Counties, Illinois, convened at a regular meeting at the Mercer County Junior High School Music Room, 1002 SW 6th Street, Aledo, IL at 6:39 PM.

Prior to Roll Call, President Mike Bowns opened with a brief prayer followed by the pledge of allegiance.

ATTENDANCE

Board members present upon roll call: Balmer, Bieri, Bowns, and Yates. A quorum was present. Absent: Monson, Smock, and Wagner

Administrators present: Superintendent Scott Petrie

Also in Attendance: Recording Secretary Angie Baker.

CONSENT AGENDA 1. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Balmer, to approve the following items on the consent agenda.

Roll Call: 4 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion carried.

TREASURER BOND 2. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Balmer, to approve the RENEWAL renewals for Treasurer Bonds from Nixon Insurance for Stefanie Carey, Shelly Snyder, Sherie Thorndike and Angie DeBlock in the amount of $13,008.00 as presented.

Roll Call: 4 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion carried.

HIGH ROADS SUPPORT 3. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Yates, to approve the Kind Support agreement with High Roads Advantage in the amount of $3,900.

Roll Call: 4Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion carried.

CLOSED SESSION 4. There was a motion by Balmer, seconded by Bieri, to go into Closed Session after a short recess for Personnel, Negotiations, and Real Property discussion at 6:50PM.

4.1 Personnel

The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)

4.2 Negotiations

Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2).

4.3 Real Property

The purchase or lease of real property for the use of the District, including meetings held for the purpose of discussing whether a particular parcel should be acquired. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(5).

Majority of Ayes by Voice Vote. Motion carried.

The Board returned to Open Session at 7:30PM.

HIRE SPED COORD 5. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Balmer, to hire Becky PREK SUPERVISOR McPeek as Special Education Coordinator/PreK Supervisor.

Roll Call: 4 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion carried.

VOLUNTEER WORKER 6. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Balmer, to approve Ray Leng as a volunteer worker for the Golf Program.

Roll Call: 4 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion carried.

MCEA LABOR 7. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Balmer, to approve the AGREEMENT MCEA Labor Agreement as presented.

Roll Call: 4 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion carried.

ADJOURN 8. There was a motion by Bieri, seconded by Balmer, to adjourn the meeting at 7:35PM.

Majority of Ayes by Voice Vote. Motion carried.

OTHER REPORTS AND DISCUSSIONS:

ADDITIONS/ DELETIONS 1 None

PUBLIC COMMENT 2. None

CORRESPONDENCE 3. A thank you card was received from Liz Gray on the recognition of her retirement.

BOARD COMMENTS 4. None

COMMITTEE REPORTS 5. Mr. Petrie added to the Wellness Committee report that he contacted East Moline Schools and they do not transport food. Each of their schools have their own kitchens. Mike Bowns has not heard back from Bettendorf Schools in regards to meal transportation.

HIGH ROADS 6. The High Roads Advantage In Kind Support is an annual support ADVANTAGE SUPPORT payment that provides services to some of our students that might find it difficult to be successful in a public school setting. High Roads provides opportunities such as GED classes, work and life skills, and provides assistance in post-secondary education, training, and employment.

FOIA REQUESTS 7. We responded to a FOIA request from SmartProcure for PO/Vendor Information.

FOOD SERVICE 8. Mr. Petrie discussed the Food Service Annual report that was provided ANNUAL REPORT in the board packet. Due to all student lunches being claimed as free during the 2021-2022 school year and the reimbursement rates being higher, we show a substantial revenue amount in food service. These funds will be used to purchase additional/replacement equipment to improve food transportation and increase storage space.

SUMMER CONST. 9. Mr. Petrie gave an update on the new addition at the Junior High.

PROJECTS Windows have been installed allowing things to start getting done inside the building.

HVAC has been installed and the floors have been leveled. The chiller unit has been delayed again and will not be in place prior to the start of the school year. We are still on track to house students and staff on the first day of school.

The high school tuck-pointing project continues to make progress. The hallway floors have been completed.
