United Community Unit School District 304 Board of Education met July 14.

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance were: Maggie Wallace, Chris Schwarz, Chad Robertson, Pat Coate, several community members and Kris Repp.
AGENDA Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Jill Jenks. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
POLICY 1ST READING The Board set a special work meeting for Wednesday, August 3rd to discuss section 6 of the policy manual.
ADMIN COMP RPT A motion was made by Amelia Tierney with a second by Joel Johnson to approve the Administrative Compensation Report. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
TUITION WAIVER/E LEARNING A motion was made by Joel Johnson to set August 11, 5:00 p.m. as a hearing for tuition waives and E Learning plan. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Superintendent Whitsitt reported on construction/life safety projects. The water project should begin next week, the phones system is in progress.
CONSENT AGENDA A motion was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Jill Jenks to approve the consent agenda which included: Approval of the June 23 2022 minutes; July bills as presented; activity funds reports; treasurer’s report, employment of Jen Cook, Jr High Cheer Coach for the ‘22-23 season and Jordan Johnson as Jr. High Girls’ Basketball Coach. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
CLOSED SESSION Amelia Tierney made a motion to enter into closed session with a return to open at 6:25 p.m. Joel Johnson seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
AS A RESULT OF CLOSED SESSION
EMPLOYMENT Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve employment of Madeline Poole as a long term sub in the West Pre K classroom. Craig Allaman seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. Abstain: Dana Poole. Motion carried.
CLOSED SESSION MINUTES A motion was made by Hank Shimmin that closed session minutes will remain closed. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
Adjourn Craig Allaman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:05 p.m. Dan Toops Johnson seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.
