In a June 27 press release, Rep. Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) announced that she was elected president of the board of State Ag and Rural Leaders
“Last week, I was honored to be elected President of the Board for State Ag and Rural Leaders,” Hammond said. “Joining me is 1st VP Sen. Carolyn McGinn (Kansas), 2nd VP Sen. Annette Sweeney (Iowa) and Sec. Devon Mathis (CA). I look forward to serving with these legislative leaders to promote our shared passion for agriculture and rural communities across America.”
The State Ag and Rural Leaders organization is comprised of legislators from across the country. Hammond served as the first vice president of the board from 2018-2020. The group develops agriculture and rural policy issues.
Hammond represents the 93rd House district. Though her district was eliminated in redistricting, she is currently running unopposed for the 94th House district seat.
"There’s much work to do in Springfield and I’m energized to share your voice at the capitol,” Hammond said as she spoke to supporters in Aledo, KHQA reported.
Hammond first joined the House in 2010.
Last year, Hammond was honored by the Illinois Education Association as a recipient of its “Friend of Education” award. The annual award is given to legislators who demonstrate a commitment to public schools in Illinois.
“Quality schools and dedicated teachers are essential to the long-term outlook for my district and the entire state,” Hammond said on her website. “I’m proud of my work on school funding formulas and other key legislation that supports the education needs of our community. I appreciate the partnership of the IEA as we work to continue to meet these goals in the future.”
