Rep. Randy Frese (R-Quincy) recently attended the Adams County Fair, an annual event residents have enjoyed since the 1940s.
“(My wife) and I enjoyed a delicious lemon shake-up, kettle corn, and ice cream all while having fun at the Adams County Fair,” Frese wrote on Facebook. “It’s a beautiful night and the sweet corn was excellent as well! Hope you have the chance to stop by for all of the wonderful things Adams County has to offer.”
Muddy River News reported Madelyn Ohnemus, 11, claimed victory to become the 2022 Junior Miss Adams County and Hailey McKinney, 15, became the 2022 Miss Teen Adams County during their respective pageants on July 28.
The Adams County Fair started on July 22 and wrapped on Aug. 2.
Attendees had the opportunity to see and take part in a variety of pageants, livestock showings and judging, bareback and saddle bronc busting, and many other events throughout the week.
WGEM reported the Adams County Health Department had concerns the summer heat could cause food stand refrigerators to overwork and fail.
“You have an inside look and an inside source on the things that can happen to a person’s body when they get contaminated food or they get sick,” co-owner of Big Bro’s Barbecue and Catering Cindy Williams said to WGEM. “So it’s super important to keep each and every person in the community healthy.”
The Adams County Fair started as a single-day event in 1941 and has grown to a multi-day (multi-week, even) event with a variety of exhibitions and livestock showings, music, rodeo-related activities and more.
WGEM also reported fair officials saw thousands of people attend the fair this year and that it might’ve been its largest turnout.
Frese was first elected to the Illinois House in 2015. His legislative experience includes serving on the Health Care Licenses and Museums, Arts, & Cultural Enhancement committees. Frese resides in Adams County.
