McDonough County Law & Legal Committee met May 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, and Julie Melvin. Member Travis Hiel was absent. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Tim Lobdell, Dave Schaab, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve April 4, 2022 Minutes

Member Calvert moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report.

Tri-County Recycling

Tim Lobdell gave the report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Nine Veterans were given assistance in April. Total assistance amounted to $2,396.55.

Sheriff’s Report

Report received and filed.

Assessor’s Office Update

Deborah Cousins gave the report. Deborah informed the Committee that on June 1, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. the Farmland Committee will have a meeting, they are also in need of one more member. Industry, New Salem and Eldorado Townships need an assessor, if they don’t find one the County will have to do it. County Chair Schwerer said that we need to find out what the statute says.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Kirby to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Public Comment

None.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that a new law has passed and the State’s Attorney’s salary will be decreased, the new salary will be $142,068.19 beginning on July 1, 2022

Adjourn

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Litchfield to adjourn the meeting at 7:43 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
