Monmouth College track and field junior Reed Wilson (Normal, Illinois) finished ninth in pole vault at the Division III NCAA Outdoor National Championships on Saturday in Geneva, Ohio. Wilson, competing in his third straight nationals, narrowly missed being an All-American which goes to the top eight finishers.
Wilson passed on the first height of the competition at 4.50m, as did 10 other of the 20 competitors. He cleared 4.65m on his second attempt and then cleared 4.80m on his first attempt. With 12 vaulters left, the bar moved up to 4.90m an one competitor passed. Wilson was one of four to miss on all three attempts at 4.90m, leaving him in a tie for the final All-American spot. However, the vaulter from Wisconsin Eau-Claire who passed at 4.90m, cleared 4.95m on his final attempt, dropping Wilson to ninth place. The winning height ended up being 5.10m.
Wilson qualified for the 2021 Outdoor National Championships and again at the 2022 Indoor National Championships. He finished 12th at the Indoors and didn't clear the first height at the 2021 Outdoors. Wilson was Monmouth's only representative at the 2022 National Championships in Ohio.
