City of Galesburg Golf Advisory Commission met March 22.

Meeting was called to order at 4:05 P.M.
Roll Call:
Present: Members: Dave Selkirk, Steve Cheesman, Paul Sandborg, Jerry Reynolds, Greenskeeper Matt Miles, Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke, Park Superintendent Don Miles, City Attorney/Administrative Services Director Bradley Nolden
Absent: Rodney Bunch
Minutes of November 23, 2021 were approved with the insertion of Ladies/Junior Golf Results of 2021
Election of Chairperson:
Dave Selkirk was nominated and appointed as chair of the Golf Commission. Greenkeeper Report:
Greenskeeper Matt Miles provided an extensive report to the Commission regarding maintenance activities taken in late 2021 and early 2022. A copy of this report is included with the minutes.
Report was reviewed and accepted.
Golf Professional Report:
Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke provided his March report including a 2021 year in review and winter projects completed. A copy of this report is included with the minutes. Report was reviewed and accepted.
Head Golf Professional Bryan Luedtke presented an updated 2022 tournament calendar.
A report was given regarding the course generating $31,050 in revenue on opening day, March 16th , which was the highest one day total since at least 2015.
The commission briefly discussed the public’s ability to locate the Bunker Links site through navigation on the City’s website. Mr. Nolden will report back on data to the commission regarding this issue.
Old Business:
• The Commissioners voted to recommend a $29.00 April special rate.
• The Commission held a lengthy discussion regarding possible signage of notable golfers from Galesburg and that the course is the home of the Silver Streaks. Commission member Cheesman volunteered to undertake more investigation regarding this issue.
• The Commissioners inquired about replacement of pull carts. Mr. Nolden will report back on this issue at the next meeting.
• The Commissioners briefly discussed the scooter program and that a decision will need to be made whether to continue at the conclusion of the contract. Don Miles will provide more information at the next meeting.
New Business:
• A lengthy discussion was held regarding the lack of available bathrooms during the March portion of the golf season. The group discussed potential options and issues presented by opening bathrooms during this time.
• The Commissioners briefly discussed the continuation of the scholarship program.
Citizen Comments:
• Vicki Schultz, representing the Bunker Babes Golf group came to discuss their support for a brick memorial program. The Commission discussed the program and Mr. Nolden will report back on the progress of the program at the next meeting.
