ROWVA Community Unit School District 208 Board of Education met May 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Lake at 7:00 pm.

Pledge of Allegiance…

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 pm:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Fleming (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Godsil (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mrs. Bean (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mrs. Bean moved and Mrs. Godsil seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of April 18, 2022, April 26, 2022, May 2, 2022, May 3, 2022, and May 6, 2022, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Fleming (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Godsil (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mrs. Bean (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, and many visitors.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: School year goals, educational spotlight and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: School year goals, student spotlight, education spotlight and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items were Agenda items.

Mr. Sornberger recommended the proposed Amended Budget be posted for review. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Fleming seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended setting the Budget Amendment Hearing for 6:50 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022. Mr. West moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mrs. Danner and Mr. Seaney presented the 2022-2023 Student Handbooks for the first reading. Mr. Sornberger presented the 2022-2023 Fee Schedule for the first reading.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Clara Asplund and Abigail Reynolds be approved for early graduation in 2022-2023. Mr. West moved and Mrs. Godsil seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to seek bids for milk, bread and fuel for the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to seek bids to upgrade the school bus cameras. Mr. West moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mrs. Godsil moved and Mrs. Fleming seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Fleming (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Godsil (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mrs. Bean (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Johnson moved and Mrs. Godsil seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Fleming (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Godsil (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mrs. Bean (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 9:20 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Laura Nordstrom as an Elementary (1st Grade) Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Fleming moved and Mrs. Godsil seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Trisha Bledsoe as the District Instructional Coach for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Godsil moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The ROWVA Board of Education recommended hiring Dr. James Dunlap as the District Superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The ROWVA Board of Education recommended hiring Ben Rees as the Jr/Sr High School Principal for the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Fleming seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Nicole Dewitt (Girls XC Coach), Garret Rau (Varsity Asst Football, Varsity Asst Boys Basketball Coach, and Strength and Conditioning Asst), Jordan Danner (JV Asst Football Coach), Max Roberts (JH Football Coach), Ryan Wessling (JH Football Asst Coach), James Sams (Varsity Asst Boys Basketball Coach), Sherrill Campbell (Freshman Boys Basketball Coach), Casey Erlacher (Freshman Girls Basketball Coach), Grant Gullstrand (Strength and Conditioning Lead), and Jason Lydic (Strength and Conditioning Asst) for the 2022-2023 sports season. Mr. West moved and Mrs. Bean seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Cynthia Watts as a Bus Driver. Mr. West moved and Mrs. Godsil seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation from Val Furrow as Boys XC Coach be accepted. Mrs. Fleming moved and Mrs. Bean seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation from Sarah Grant (4th Grade Teacher) be accepted. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Fleming seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the retirement of Ronna Williams be accepted. Mrs. Fleming moved and Mrs. Godsil seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post an opening for a Boys XC Coach and an Elementary (4th Grade) Teacher. Mrs. Bean moved and Mrs. Fleming seconded the motion. Motion carried.
