Call to Order/Roll Call
The Community Unit School District #205 Board of Education met for a special meeting at 8:30 AM at 932 Harrison St., Galesburg, IL. The roll was read and the following Members responded: Bess-Tabb (via phone), Cervantez, Phelps, Scherpe, Lyon (5) Absent: Boettcher, Rodriguez (2) Roll Call #1
Consider Approval of the Sale of Nielson Elementary School
It was moved by Member Phelps and seconded by Member Lyon to accept the highest bidder for Nielson Elementary School and approve the sale to the Galesburg Rescue Mission. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Phelps, Scherpe, Bess-Tabb (via phone), Cervantez, Lyon (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #2
Consider Approval of the Sale of Churchill Junior High School
It was moved by Member Lyon and seconded by Member Phelps to approve the transfer of Churchill Junior High School to the City of Galesburg as presented. Board discussion ensued. President Scherpe stated that he was uncomfortable with the negative discussion taking place at the City Council meeting regarding the District wanting to dump the building on the City. Member Phelps stated he was disappointed as well and that if the City didn’t want the building, he would rather the District just keep it. Discussion ensued and it was moved by Member Lyon to amend his motion to table the item for the Monday, April 11, 2022 meeting and seconded by Member Phelps. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Bess-Tabb (via phone), Lyon, Cervantez, Scherpe, Phelps (5). Motion carried. Roll Call #3
Adjournment
It was moved by Member Phelps and seconded by Member Cervantez that the meeting be adjourned—8:47AM. On roll call the following Members voted AYE: Phelps, Scherpe, Bess Tabb (via phone), Lyon, Cervantez (5) Motion carried. Roll Call #4
