United Board of Education met March 10

United Board of Education met March 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance were: Maggie Wallace, Chris Schwarz, Chad Robertson, Saathoff, and Kris Repp.

AGENDA Dan Toops made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

GRADUATION The Board was informed that the last day for seniors is May 6, 2022 and graduation is May 15, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at United High School. The 8th grade promotion ceremony is tentatively set for 6:00 p.m. on Jun 1, 2022 .

SCIENCE CREDITS The Board was introduced to a proposal allowing students to earn HS science credits via Ag Science classes such as Horticulture, Environmental Science, Food Science.... There is already articulation within the state to allow for this and UHS has all components in place. Students at UHS require 3 science credits to graduate.

BIDS A motion was made by Joel Johnson torefuse the bid of MSI for the HVAC Phase 2 project. Dan Toops seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

Joel Johnson made a motion to approve the bid of NES Environmental for the asbestos abatement project in the amount of $41,347. Jill Jenks seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

SUMMER SCHOOL Joel Johnson made a motion to approve summer school for United Elementary Schools during the weeks of June 6-17 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Jill Jenks seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

CUM LAUDE A motion was made by Hank Shimmin to approve the implementation of the Cum Laude system of designation for graduation honors starting with the 2022-23 incoming freshman class. Dan Toops seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

MOWING A motion to approve the following mowing bids for the calendar year 2022 was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Amelia Tierney.

A-N-G Enterprise - North Campus; Bowling Lawn Care - West and South Campus. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

POLICY A motion was made by Jill Jenks with a second by Craig Allaman to Approve board policy sections 3 & 8 as presented. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

CALENDAR A motion was made by Joel Johnson seconded by Hank Shimmin to approve the 2022-23 academic calendar as presented. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Superintendent Whitsitt reported on the gym floor being scanned. The progress of the new well at the high school being they are drawing up plans at the current time. The solar bills have been ⅓ of what they were in the past. He is hoping to lock in fuel prices with Halcomb Oil as soon as possible. The April board meeting has been rescheduled for April 13th 2022.

CONSENT AGENDA A motion was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Craig Allaman to approve the consent agenda which included: Approval of the February 10, 2022 minutes; March bills as presented; activity funds reports; treasurer’s report, regretful accept the resignation of Joanie Cornell, North Elementary paraprofessional effective at the end of the 21-22 school year. Employment of Kaleb Plattenberger, Jr High Track Coach for the spring ‘22 season and volunteer spring coaches: Gary Teel (Bass Fishing), Scott Stewart (Bass Fishing) and Dalton Frieden (baseball). Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

CLOSED SESSION Craig Allaman made a motion to enter into closed session with a return to open at 7:21 p.m. Joel Johnson seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

AS A RESULT OF CLOSED SESSION

EMPLOYMENT Amelia Tierney made a motion to approve re-employment and movement to continued contractual service to the following teachers. Jill Jenks seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

Drew Witherell , Jeff Hannam, Jaclyn Turner , Hayley Miller, Jonathan Clayton, Ann Hulsizer, Selina Baker, Amanda Keith , Carissa Elliott, Amber Pakosz , Phil Pullen, Jill Carlson and Stephanie Allaman.

A motion to approve employment of the following non-tenured teachers for the 2022-2023 school year was made by Amelia Tierney with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

RESIGNATIONS Hank Shimmin made a motion to regretfully accept the resignation of Lisa Coleman as High School Girls’ Basketball Coach. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

CONTRACT EXT Dan Toops made a motion to extend the contract of Superintendent, Jeff Whitsitt for an additional year. Hank Shimmin seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman,

Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

Adjourn Craig Allaman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 p.m. Joel Johnson seconded the motion. Voice Vote: Motion carried.
