United United CUSD 304 Board of Education met Nov. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 5:00 p.m. Roll was called and answered by: Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. 

CLOSED SESSION A motion to enter into closed session with a return to open was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye –, Jill  Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana  Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

OPEN SESSION The board reconvened open session at 6:07 p.m. 

Waiver Hearing 

November 11, 2021 

WAIVER HEARING Discussion was held regarding holiday and tuition waivers 

ADJOURN The waiver hearing was adjourned at 6:14 and continue to the regular board meeting. 

AGENDA Joel Johnson made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

PUBLIC COMMENTS Brenda Gregory spoke to the board. 

TAX LEVY Superintendent, Jeff Whitsitt, recommended a 5% increase and to hold a truth in taxation hearing should final EAV numbers come in and it would go over the 5% for the 2021 tax levy. 

AUDIT Superintendent Whitsitt presented and discussed the financial audit.

MASK UPDATE The board was updated on lawsuits regarding the mask mandate in Southern Illinois 

NEW COURSE Sarah Horner presented a new Entrepreneurship class that she will be implementing in high school. Funding will be mainly through the Delabar Vocational Ed. 

TRUTH IN TAXATION A motion was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Amelia Tierney to set the Truth in Taxation Hearing for 12/9/21 at 6:00 p.m. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

AUDIT Joel Johnson made a motion with a second by Dan Toops to accept the Financial Audit as presented. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

TUITION WAIVER A motion to approve the application for waiver of tuition for employees of the district was made by Joel Johnson. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

HOLIDAY WAIVER A motion to approve the application for waiver of holidays for calendar purposes was made by Jill Jenks. Dan Toops seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia 

Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

MID TERM GRAD A motion to approve 2 mid-term early graduations was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Jill Jenks. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

CONSENT AGENDA

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none. 

ADJOURN Joel Johnson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:04 p.m. Dan Toops seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye –Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin, Craig Allaman, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Joel Johnson.. Nay – none.
