Scots Swimmers Enjoy Success at Grinnell

Monmouth College Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 6

The Monmouth College swim teams had a successful weekend at the Pioneer Classic in Grinnell, Iowa, competing against 11 other Division III teams. The men finished 6th and the women finished 7th while numerous swimmers posted season and career best times.

"This was by far our best weekend of the season," said head coach Jake Dacus. "I'm very pleased with our performances this weekend and 86% of our swimmers posted season-best times."

The top performer of the day was senior Brooke McCormick (Metamora, Illinois) who posted three top-3 finishes as an individual. She finished second in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:18.68, lowering her season-best time by 11 seconds. The time is the fifth best in the Midwest Conference this season and was the top time at the Pioneer Classic for a MWC swimmer.

McCormick also finished third in both the 100 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Backstroke while finishing sixth in the 200 yard Backstroke. She posted season-bests in all three events and now has the third best MWC time in the 100 backstroke this year at 1:02.39. She ranks sixth in the 200 yard backstroke after a 2:17.42 in her first swim in the event and her 1:01.07 in the 100 butterfly from the weekend ranks seventh.

Jaidlyn Sellers (Tremont, Illinois) scored nine points with a 12th place finish in the 50 Free as she posted a season-best time of 26.12. She added 11 points with an 11th place finish in the 100 backstroke at 1:03.56, a new season-best. She picked up seven more points with a 2:23.89 swim in the 200 backs

Marissa Logan (Elmhurst, Illinois) scored sixth points with a 15th place finish in the 1650 Free at 21:06.91. Evelyn Schaefer (Stoughton, Wisconsin) also placed 17th in the event with a time of 21:33.21 to earn four point and Kaitlyn Fox (Villa Park, Illinois)  picked up two points at 22:15.85.

On the men's side, Kyle Jones (Parkland, Florida) scored 17 points with a sixth place finish in the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.32. The time shaved 3.52 seconds off his best time of the season. He also scored three points in the 200 breaststroke at 2:23.05

Tyler Davis (Beloit, Wisconsin) swam the 1650 Free for the first time this season and earned seven points with a 14th place finish at 18:54.14. He also set season-bests in the 200 Free and 500 Free. Brady Hild (Tremont, Illinois) picked up two points with a 22:26.86 swim in the 1650 Free.

The Scots placed two in the top 20 of the 100 Free to pick up nine points. Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) earned six points with a season-best swim of 50.49 while Finnegan VanDyke (Lawrence, Kansas) picked up three points at 50.69.

In relays the men scored 34 points in the 400 Medley relay and 34 in the 200 Medley relay. In the Freestyle relays they scored 34 points in the 400, 32 points in the 200 and 32 points in the 800.

The women scored 30 in both Medley relays. They added 34 points in the 200 Freestyle relay and 30 in both the 400 and 800 Free.

Other individuals who set new season bests included: Mady Gaus (Herscher, Illinois), Kayle Heumann (Schaumburg, Illinois), Lauren Johnson (Pekin, Illinois), Daniel Kadlec (Justice, Illinois), Tristan Lambert (Rock Island, Illinois), David Nino (Chicago, Illinois), Bella Peetz (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin), Skylar Rapp (Oxnard, California), Camden Schmidt (Washington, Illinois) and  Ashling Staunton (Chicago, Illinois),

The Scots will next be in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 15 at home against Knox. That meet will serve as Senior Day for both teams and it begins at 1 p.m.
