McDonough County Human Resources and Planning Committee met Oct. 14.

The Human Resources and Planning Committee met at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Law Library. Committee Members in attendance included Chair Letha Clark, Vice Chair Deckle McLean, George Dixon, Cindi Helling, Michael Kirby, Dave Nissen, and Vicky Kipling. Member absent was Rod McGrew. Others in attendance included County Chair Scott Schwerer, Patrick Stout, Bonnie Scripps, John Vigezzi and Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander.
Chair Letha Clark called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review and Approve Minutes from September 9, 2021
Vice Chair McLean moved with a second by Member Dixon to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried with a voice vote.
Animal Control Report
Assistant Animal Control Officer Zach Welch gave the report. The total number of dogs in the shelter at the end of September was 5 and there were 52 cats. Welch informed the Committee that he has fixed some of the dog doors Member Dixon wanted to know if there is any idea on how to control the cats in the shelter. He asked if maybe Joe could do a video for their website. Member Dixon also informed the Committee that the cats are to be in the Shelter for 8 weeks then the Humane Society is supposed to foster them but, instead they have been supporting the adoption fee.

Humane Society
Bonnie Scripts informed the Committee that The Wine Seller Play it Forward Fundraiser has made $2100.00 toward the new building fund. Scripts informed the Committee that they will be at The Moon Over Macomb event making dog toys. They will also be attending Bark In the Park on October 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Veterans Parkway. Scripts informed the Committee that they put in for a grant with Wal Mart that was received. They are going to buy the new wash tub for the Shelter. Scripts informed the Committee that the new Building Fund is around $300,000.00 so far.

Claims
Member Dixon moved with a second by Member Helling to approve claims as submitted. Motion carried on voice vote.
Other
There is no news on the new sign for the Animal Shelter, but Vice Chair McLean has called.
County Board Chair Comments
County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that Finance is working on the budget for the County Board.

Member Kirby moved with a second by Member Kipling to adjourn the meeting at 7:23 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
