United Community Unit School District 304 Board of Education met Oct. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 5:00 p.m.. Roll was called and answered by: Joel Johnson, Jill Jenks, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin.

AGENDA Jill Jenks made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye –, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

CLOSED SESSION A motion to enter into closed session with a return to open was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye –, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

OPEN SESSION The board reconvened open session at 6:00 p.m.

PUBLIC COMMENTS Dan Ott spoke to the board.

SHOWCASING SUCCESS Board member Ameia Tierney recognized the Jr. High Baseball team for the appearance in the state series and the administration and staff for making it possible for all to attend and providing bussing. She also wanted to say that the 5th graders are missing band and are anxiously awaiting it for 2nd semester.

TAX LEVY Superintendent, Jeff Whitsitt, presented the 1st draft of the 2021 tax levy.

TABLED MOTION Craig Allaman rescinded the motion regarding Critical Race Theory and noted a board committee will be established to discuss curriculum. Jill Jenks commented on CRT and how it has been misleading due to media coverage.

SNOW BIDS Joel Johnson made a motion to approve the following snow removal bids for the 21-22 school year. Eric Olson - North Campus, Tom Hall - West Campus, Wade Landscaping South Campus. Dan Toops seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye –, Jill Jenks, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Dan Toops, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

CONSENT AGENDAA motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Joel Johnson with a second by Jill Jenks. It included the employment of Kaitlyn Kinney - Pre K Para at United North effective mid November; Kennedy Cash - Jr. High Science effective January 3, 2022 and Grace Brooks - JH Full time substitute effective January 3, 2022.

ADJOURN Joel Johnson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:40 p.m. Craig Allaman seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye –Dan Toops, Hank Shimmin, Craig Allaman, Jill Jenks, Amelia Tierney, Dana Poole and Joel Johnson.. Nay – none.
