A bill sponsored by state Sen. Win Stoller (R-Germantown) paves the way for the Village of Dunlap to take control of an unused and impassable portion of the Rock Island Trail.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently signed Senate Bill 84 into law, which officially gives the Illinois Department of Natural Resources the power to make the transfer. Village officials have already established they plan to enhance accessibility and recreational amenities.
“The Rock Island Trail is a popular destination point for outdoor enthusiasts throughout the state and even the nation,” Stoller said in a press release posted to his website. “The signing of this bill will help improve the experience for everyone who uses the trail, and more importantly it will improve safety.”
Currently, anyone using the trail in the Dunlap area is required to use village streets, which Stoller says is dangerous for both pedestrians and motorists.
Pritzker officially signed off on the legislation on Aug. 6.
