Illinoisans may notice a new check-off box on their next set of state income tax forms, this one to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities, following overwhelming passage of legislation earlier this year.
Sen. Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills), who sponsored the legislation, paid a visit to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois about a week after Senate Bill 81 was signed into law.
"The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois is a valuable part of our community that services over 29 counties in our region," Stoller said in a July 15 news release. “The critical services that they provide to families dealing with the hardships of a sick child cannot be overstated."
SB 81 creates an income tax check-off box on Illinois state tax forms for donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Fund. Money collected through the check-off will be used to grants to the charity for services it provides in Illinois.
Income tax check-off boxes allow taxpayers to make charitable donations by checking a box on their state income forms. The Ronald McDonald House Charities Fund check-off box brings to six the number of boxes on Illinois income tax forms.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent nonprofit charitable organization with a stated mission to support families with sick children. The charity is best known for its "houses," usually located near hospitals, where families of hospitalized children may stay at little to no cost
Stoller introduced SB 81 into the Senate in early February and the bill unanimously passed that chamber on April 23. The bill unanimously passed the House on May 20 and Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed SB 81 on July 9. The now-public act was effective immediately.
"The new tax check-off that this legislation creates will help ensure that the Ronald McDonald House Charities are able to continue their vital work for the families of sick children," said Stoller. "It is my honor to assist them with their mission of keeping families together while their child receives treatment."
