ROWVA Community Unit School District 208 Board of Education Met June 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m.:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of May 17, 2021, the Treasurer’s Report, Prevailing Wage and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, two members of the certified staff and Bell of the press.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: Summer goals, educational spotlight, summer learning camp and music standards.

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: Summer goals, education spotlight, sports/activities, summer school, math meeting and new teacher orientation.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items were Agenda items.

Mrs. Johnson provided the Future Ready update. It included announcement of the ROWVA Public Schools Foundation providing $50,000 to purchase new furniture for the LMC based on student inspired designs. She also discussed the process taking place to review the 7-12 math curriculum.

Mr. Sornberger presented the proposed 2020-2021 Amended Budget and recommended that it be approved as presented. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the tentative Board meeting schedule for 2021-2022 and recommended that it be approved as presented. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended approval to seek bids for milk, bread and fuel for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Kalb moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented a bid to repair the roof over the Industrial Arts area and recommended that it be accepted. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented a bid to purchase new Band uniforms and recommended that it be accepted. Mr. Kalb moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the quote for new classroom furniture be accepted as presented. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented a bid to purchase two new (used) buses and recommended that it be accepted. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented a bid for the concrete base for the High School bleachers and recommended that it be accepted. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Mackinzie Sperry be accepted for early graduation in 2021. Mr. West moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 7:35 p.m.

Mr. West moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 7:52 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Brittney Sallee (Elementary Secretary) be accepted. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Josh Winston (F/S Football Coach) be accepted. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Grant Gullstrand (7th grade boys basketball) be accepted. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Grant Gullstrand be hired for the Summer Help position. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Kaarina Stanley be hired as a homebound tutor. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Hannah Sunderland be hired for the JH Cheer Coach position. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Sarah Anderson be hired for the Elementary Secretary position. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that Josh Winston be hired as a volunteer F/S Football Coach. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post an opening for a Kindergarten teacher, 7th grade boys basketball, and F/S Football Coach. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to adjourn at 7:57 p.m. Motion carried.
