McDonough County Law & Legal Committee Met May 3.

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201, Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield and Julie Melvin. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, County Board Secretary Erica Wilmot, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, Dave Schaab, and Rod Flora.
Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review & Approve April 5, 2021 Minutes
Member Calvert moved with a second by Member Durkin to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Waste Management Update
Dave Schaab gave the report.
Tri-County Recycling
Received and filed.
Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report
Ric Smart gave the report. Seven Veterans were given assistance in April. Total assistance amounted to $1,405.15.
Sheriff’s Report
Sheriff Nick Petitgout went over the report.
Assessor’s Office Update
County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that the taxes are with the Treasurer’s office. Chair Schwerer stated that they have received many compliments on the tax season returning to May with June payments.
Wind Farm Ordinance
Rod Flora gave the Report. A discussion was held on Shadow Flickering.
Claims Review and Approval
Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments
County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that Alice Henry’s husband has passed. Chair Schwerer also informed the Committee that Dave Cortelyou is now at the Elms recovering and doing very well.
County Chair Schwerer stated that the Reapportioning hearing will be held Wednesday, May 12 at 5:30pm.

Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Hiel to adjourn the meeting at 7:19 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
