United Community United School District 304 Board of Education Met April 8.

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m., April 8, 2021. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance were: Patrick Coate, Maggie Wallace, Chris Schwarz, Amy Schmitz, Sheila Pressley, Kris Repp and several community members.
AGENDA Debbie King made a motion to approve the agenda as amended with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
BOARD MEMBERS Seating of the new Board members was tabled due to the fact that the Warren County Court House has not certified the winners. Results will not be complete until April 20th.
RECOGNITION The board recognized Mrs. Debbie King and Mr. Aaron Leary for their service to our school board. Mrs. King served 20 years in total. Mr. Leary was presented a U Made a Difference award and
Mrs. King was presented a U Rock Award.
BID Debbie King made a motion to approve the contract bid from Track Surfaces, Inc.in the amount of $127,000 for the track surface. This money was raised by the fundraising committee. Aaron Leary seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
A motion to approve the bid by Crawford Construction for the High School HVAC project in the amount of $611,000 was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
CALENDAR A motion was made by Hank Shimmin to approve the 2021-2022 school calendar as presented. Joel Johnson seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
POLICY A motion to approve the 2nd reading of the policy regarding Student Online Privacy and Protection act was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
IHSA Joel Johnson made a motion to approve membership into the IHSA for the 2021-2022 year. Amelia Tierney seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary,
Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
SUPT REPORT Superintendent Whitsitt reported on facility projects: Gym Floor will be reinspected April 14th. Jr. High gym was completed over the spring break holiday. Potential Board Goals will be presented at the special board meeting to seat new members. Research is being done to move the high school to a different method of academic recognition. Two vaccination clinics have been scheduled for United High School through the Warren County Health Department. Brian Blackman secured a grant through Ameran Electric to replace lighting. Trish Bertelsen secured a grand through the Secretary of State for the Library.

CLOSED SESSION At 6:38 Joel Johnson made a motion to enter into closed session to consider the approval of any action as a result of executive session, with intent to return to open session A second was made by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
OPEN SESSION Return to open session at 7:15 p.m.
PERSONNEL REPORT A motion to employ Jamie Korner as North Elementary Media Paraprofessional was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Amelia Tierney. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
Aaron Leary made a motion for continued employment and wage rates for the non-certified personnel as presented for the 21-22 school year. Joel Johnson seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and
Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.
A motion for employment of the following spring sports coaches was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call:
