ROWVA Community Unit School District 208 Board of Education Met April 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m.:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mr. West moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of March 15, 2021 and March 26, 2021, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy pending review of one bill from Ameren. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, four members of the certified staff and Bell of the press. Code Basham of Klingner & Associates joined the meeting remotely.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: School year goals, educational spotlight, handbook meeting, Instructional Coach update, and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: School year goals, student discipline, student spotlight, education spotlight, Director of Innovation update, and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items were Agenda items.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the High School Ceiling and Lighting Project Bid be awarded as presented to Hein Construction. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the High School Bathroom (hallway) and Cafetorium Waterline Project Bid be accepted. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

The Athletic Committee recommended that the Mid-County Cougar Coop for Football, Cross Country and Golf be revoked. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that a scoreboard for the Bill Adams Field be purchased from Nevco Sports LLC. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that playground equipment for the Elementary School be purchased from Burke conditional on investigation of the base material. Mr. Kalb moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the revised calendar for the 2020-2021 school year be approved as presented. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the proposed 2021-2022 school year calendar for the first reading. Mrs. Danner and Mr. Seaney presented the Student Handbooks for the first reading.

Mr. Sornberger recommended approving Jim Haynes, Jimmy Walker, Scott Cramer and Glen Scott as Boat Captains for the 2021-2022 Bass Fishing season. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried with one abstention.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that May 4, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. be set at the date to hold a Special Board Meeting to seat the new Board. Mr. Kalb moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 8:16 p.m.

Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 8:48 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the resignation of Ella Gibbons (HS Special Education Aide) be accepted. Mr. West moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Alexis Enright as an Elementary Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Nora Minnaert as a JH STEM Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Valerie Furrow, Ella Gibbons, Traci Johnson and Lexi Little as volunteer track coaches. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post an opening for a HS Special Education Aide. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post three elementary and two junior high/high school summer school teaching positions. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.
