United Board of Education met March 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the United Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Roll was called and answered by: Dana Poole, Joel Johnson, Aaron Leary, Craig Allaman, Debbie King, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Also in attendance were: Patrick Coate, Maggie Wallace, Chris Schwarz, Amy Schmitz, Sheila Pressley, Kris Repp and several community members.

AGENDA Aaron Leary made a motion to approve the agenda as amended with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

BOARD BUSINESS Board goals list should be updated for the April board meeting. Discussion regarding graduation was held. First reading of Board Policy update on 7:345 - Use of Educational Technologies; Student Data Privacy and Security.

BID Debbie King made a motion to approve the contract bid from Laverdiere Construction in the total amount of $424,707 for tuck pointing, exterior door replacement and playground enhancements. Craig Allaman seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

NEW HS CLASS A motion was made by Hank Shimmin to approve the addition of Adult Living and Nutrition as semester courses at United High School. seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

SUMMER SCHOOL A motion to approve summer school programming for June 2021 was made by Hank Shimmin with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

TRACK Hank Shimmin made a motion to approve the bid of Goetz concrete in the amount of $492,380 for track surfacing. Debbie King seconded the motion. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

CONSENT AGENDAA motion to approve the consent agenda as presented was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Joel Johnson. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Amelia Tierney, Debbie King, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Hank Shimmin and Joel Johnson. Nay – none.

CLOSED SESSION At 6:49 Debbie King made a motion to enter into closed session to discuss personnel & negotiations with intent to return to open session A second was made by Hank Shimmin. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

OPEN SESSION Return to open session at 7:15 p.m.

PERSONNEL REPORT A motion to employ the following was made by Aaron Leary with a second by Debbie King. Roll Call: Aye – Dana Poole, Debbie King, Joel Johnson, Craig Allaman, Aaron Leary, Amelia Tierney and Hank Shimmin. Nay – none.

Tiffany McCulloch as HS Ag/Tech teacher for the 21-22 school year.Regretfully accept the resignation of Kristin Chenault, West Elementary Paraprofessional effective the end of the 2020-21 school year.

Regretfully accept the resignation of Jerry Widener, West Elementary Custodian, effective the end of the 2020-21 school year.
