ROWVA Community Unit School District #208 Board of Education Met March 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The ROWVA Board of Education met in their regular meeting in the High School LMC. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Haynes at 7:00 p.m.

The following members answered roll call at 7:00 p.m.:

Mr. Johnson (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kalb (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. Lake (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), Mr. West (Present ☒ Not Present ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Present ☒ Not Present ☐).

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda for the minutes of February 16, 2021, the Treasurer’s Report, and the payment of all bills in Education, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation, IMRF, Working Cash, Fire/Safety and Activity Funds as listed on the official copy. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye☒Nay☐),and Mr. Haynes (Aye☒Nay☐). Motion carried.

People present were Board members, administrators, two members of the certified staff, Mr. Cody Basham of Klingner and Associates and Bell of the press.

Mrs. Danner presented the elementary principal’s report. She reviewed: School year goals, educational spotlight, student enrollment numbers, student spotlight/honor roll, Instructional Coach (Carly Oto) report, and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Seaney presented the jr./sr. high school principal’s report. He reviewed: School year goals, enrollment numbers, student discipline, student spotlight, education spotlight, Director of Innovation update, and upcoming events/activities.

Mr. Sornberger presented the superintendent’s report. All items were Agenda items.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to accept bids for the ROWVA High School roofing project. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay☐) ,Mr. West (Aye☒ Nay☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye☒ Nay☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested permission to begin replacement projects (HS Football/Track Bleachers and Scoreboard, and Elementary Playground Equipment for K-6 students) for the ROWVA School District. Mr. Johnson moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented a Resolution to abolish the Working Cash Fund, effective 3/15/21, to the Capital Fund and reestablish the Working Cash Fund effective July 1, 2021. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye☒ Nay☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye☒ Nay☐), Mr. West (Aye☒ Nay☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye☒ Nay☐). Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented the Instructional Coach / Director of Innovation Job Description for the second reading and recommended that it be updated. Mrs. Shepherd moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger presented information regarding High School Football, Prom and Graduation.

Mr. Sornberger recommended that the Board adopt the Resolution of Dismissal of First-Year Probationary Teachers Rayanne Harrison and Brittany Secor as presented, and that the Superintendent be authorized and directed to deliver or, cause to be delivered, the notice to the employee as specified in the resolution. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. West seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Lake seconded the motion to move into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 7:44 p.m.

Mr. West moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion to return to open session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and matters pertaining to an individual student. Polled vote: Mr. Johnson (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kalb (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Kuelper (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. Lake (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mrs. Shepherd (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), Mr. West (Aye ☒ Nay ☐), and Mr. Haynes (Aye ☒ Nay ☐). Motion carried at 8:15 p.m.

Mr. Sornberger recommended accepting the resignation of Mary Clark (8th Grade Volleyball Coach). Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended accepting the resignation of Amanda Webber (7th Grade Volleyball Coach). Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended accepting the resignation of Jennafer Fisher (Elementary Full-Time Sub) as of March 31, 2021. Mr. West moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Kyle Kimball for the HS Math position for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Kalb seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Tina West for the JH Cheer position for the 2020-2021 season. Mr. Lake moved and Mr. Kuelper seconded the motion. Motion carried with one abstention.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Max Roberts for the JH Track Coach for the 2020-2021 season. Mr. West moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger recommended hiring Jena Cramer for the Elementary (1st Grade) Teaching position for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Kalb moved and Mrs. Shepherd seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mr. Sornberger requested approval to post job openings for a 7th Grade Volleyball Coach, an 8thGrade Volleyball Coach, an Elementary Teaching (5th grade) position, and a Part-Time Groundskeeper. Mr. Kuelper moved and Mr. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.
