Q3 2020 Parolees Recap: Who was paroled in Effingham County?

There were seven offenders released on parole during the third quarter of 2020 that live in Effingham County, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Galesburg Reporter.

The data shows that all of the released offenders in Effingham County were men. The median age of the parolees was 41. The youngest parolee was a 29-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving one or more weapons in 2019, and the oldest was a 59-year-old man sentenced for a property crime in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Michael Sparling. He was convicted of homicide in 1992 when he was 21 years old. He is now 50.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below gives a breakdown of how many offenders were paroled in the third quarter of 2020 in each Effingham County municipality with at least one parolee in the quarter.
