Illinois ranked No. 41 on a chart detailing the costs of smoking in each state.

The ranking comes from a report put together by the personal finance website WalletHub.

In charts detailing the costs of smoking in each state, it was shown that $2,664,255 is the cost of smoking over a lifetime in Illinois. The average smoker in Illinois spends $55,505 a year.

In the WalletHub study, each state was ranked according to the cost per lifetime and cost per year in each state.

The personal finance company found that smoking costs the U.S. more than $300 billion. More than 20 million people have died from smoking-related illnesses since 1964.

The rankings used by WalletHub were calculated by the potential monetary losses of smoking, including the cumulative cost of a cigarette pack per day over several decades, health-care expenditures and other expenses.
