District 205 board members recently approved a plan to bring back students for full-time in-person learning.

At the beginning of February, the return-to-learn plan used a hybrid approach to gradually bring students back to classrooms for two days a week, with the remainder of the week utilizing remote learning, WGIL News reported. The hybrid approach will be used to ease students back to classrooms until the school moves forward with full-time, in-person education on Monday, Feb. 22.

Superintendent John Asplund said that the board’s decision to bring back in-person learning was influenced by dropping grades among students, WGIL News reported.

Some logistics issues have to be solved to get the return-to-learn plan to start on time on Feb. 22.

First Student did not have enough bus drivers and had to hire and train extra individuals to cover the district’s 34 routes.

Asplund said that the next step is to launch a callback plan for getting food service workers and paraprofessionals back to their positions. A special meeting was scheduled for Feb. 12 to address the callback plan.
